Red Rising Saga Reading Order
Pierce Brown's Red Rising saga is one of the most ambitious sci-fi fantasy series of the last decade. It starts as a Hunger Games-esque YA story and evolves into a sprawling space opera about revolution, sacrifice, and the cost of freedom. Here's every book in order, with my thoughts on each one. Buckle up — this ride only gets wilder.
5 books in this list
- Red Rising (Red Rising Saga, #1) by Brown, Pierce — The book that started it all. Darrow's transformation from a lowly Red to a Gold infiltrator is one of the most gripping origin stories in modern sci-fi. It reads fast, hits hard, and ends with a twist that reframes everything.
- Golden Son (Red Rising Saga, #2) by Pierce Brown — This is where the series stops being YA and becomes something truly special. The political intrigue deepens, the betrayals cut deeper, and Brown proves he can write battle sequences that rival anything in the genre.
- Morning Star (Red Rising Saga, #3) by Pierce Brown — The finale of the original trilogy is an emotional sledgehammer. Brown pulls no punches, and the climax had me literally shaking. If you've made it this far, you already know — this series doesn't play it safe.
- Iron Gold (Red Rising Saga, #4) by Pierce Brown — A controversial time jump that divides fans, but I think it's brilliant. Multiple POV characters, a broader universe, and a much darker tone. This is Red Rising growing up alongside its readers.
- Dark Age by Pierce Brown — The darkest book in the series by far. Brown went places I genuinely didn't think he'd go. It's brutal, devastating, and absolutely magnificent. Fair warning: you will need the next book immediately.
